A PRELIMINARY EVALUATION OF ENVIRONMENTAL POLLUTION ARISING FROM HOSPITAL WASTE DUMPSITES IN BENIN CITY, NIGERIA

The study aimed at investigating the effects of hospital wastes on physical, chemical and microbial parameters environment using Stella Obasanjo Hospital (SOH) University Benin Teaching (UBTH) waste dumpsites based in Southern Nigeria as case studies. Soil water samples were collected three times from two stations rainy season, between months June to August, 2012 analysed for physic-chemical standard method APHA. results analysis showed that temperature, total suspended solids, pH, dissolved oxygen biological demands SOH UBTH all within same range exceeded NESREA WHO limits. While iron, zinc, copper chromium limit their concentration soil. This also revealed none hospitals treated its before disposing.
